About Me
The Luteal Phase is the final stage of the menstrual cycle, occurring after ovulation and before the start of menstruation. Lasting around 12 to 14 days, this phase plays a crucial role in preparing the body for a possible pregnancy. During the Luteal Phase, the ruptured follicle transforms into a structure called the corpus luteum, which releases progesterone—a hormone responsible for thickening the uterine lining to support a fertilized egg. If conception does not occur, the corpus luteum breaks down, leading to a drop in progesterone and triggering the shedding of the uterine lining, marking the beginning of a new menstrual cycle. Many women experience noticeable physical and emotional changes during this phase, such as bloating, breast tenderness, fatigue, mood swings, or food cravings, often referred to as premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Understanding the Luteal Phase can help individuals recognize patterns in their hormonal fluctuations, optimize fertility tracking, and improve overall menstrual health. Supporting the body during this time with balanced nutrition, hydration, and stress management can ease symptoms and promote hormonal balance.
